How hard is it to learn Korean?

Teaching yourself Korean isn’t as hard as it seems. To avoid getting stuck in grammar drills and dry textbooks, this audio course is a solid starting point. In a short time you’ll build practical Korean for travelers and business trips. The sound and melody of the language help you memorize words and pronunciation. You’ll see progress quickly and stay motivated. Still, consistency and regular repetition are the foundation for real improvement.

How can you learn Korean on your own?

As more people want to learn Korean, there are now plenty of beginner courses. Many still prefer self-study without a teacher. YouTube, podcasts, and movies in Korean help a lot. If you’d like something more structured, pick an online course or app (e.g., Rosetta Stone, Duolingo, Busuu). You can also fit audio language courses easily into your day and learn Korean on the side. If you explore Korean cuisine and music—or life in Seoul—you’ll notice how much influence Korea still has.

Where is Korean spoken?

Many don’t realize Korean is spoken and understood not only in Korea itself but also in several neighboring countries. Korean is spoken by about 80 million people in South Korea, North Korea, and communities worldwide. It uses Hangul, a unique writing system praised for its logical structure and simplicity. Korean belongs to the Koreanic language family and is influenced by Chinese and, more recently, English. With South Korea’s global influence in technology, entertainment, and culture, learning Korean offers valuable insights into both traditional and modern East Asian life.

How long does it take to learn Korean?

Our experience with this Korean course: if you practice 15 minutes a day, after a week many words will feel familiar, and after 14 days you’ll command most of the common vacation phrases (greetings, where is…?, I would like…, etc.). The course includes about 100 everyday phrases—including how to ask for Wi-Fi or the restroom.
If you want to go deeper and stay in Korea longer, aim for a daily vocabulary of at least 800 words (roughly high-school level) to express yourself well and understand the essentials. With 3,000 words (C1 certificate) people will still notice you’re not a native, but you’ll sound polished. The active vocabulary of a native speaker starts around 15,000 words. How long it takes you depends on how often you can practice.

What makes this Korean course different?

Unlike a VHS, Babbel, or podcast course, with the audio course Learn Korean for Beginners you can review all the essential vacation vocabulary in just one hour—free. It’s ideal if you’re short on time, don’t want fluff, and still want to be understood everywhere with a few words. If you enjoy this online/offline course, check out our other language courses.
